NAME: B'Elanna Torres
RANK: Lieutenant
ROLE: Chief Engineer, USS Voyager NCC 74656
RACE: Half Human/Half Klingon
The half human/half Klingon B'Elanna Torres is always in conflict with herself. Her
Klingon half comes from her mother and her human side from her father, who she rarely saw
as a child. She was brought up by her mother where she travelled around several Federation
colonies. B'Elanna then enrolled in Starfleet academy, but dropped out after one year
because of being in constant trouble with her teachers. She has always blamed her
aggressive Klingon side for losing her place at Starfleet academy
Her Klingon half is aggressive, strong and short-tempered. Her human half is compassionate
and loyal. B'Elanna is an Engineer at heart and soon finds herself useful on the Maquis
ship she joined after dropping out of the academy, commanded by Chakotay. When she arrives
in the Delta quadrant and on board Voyager, she resents Captain Janeway who she sees as
authoritarian and everything that counted against her at Starfleet academy. The two soon
gel, and Torres is made chief engineer. (Parallax).
B'Elanna has not had much luck in personal relationships until fairly recently. Her
aggressive attitude puts many mean off, and the ones that are brave enough to approach her
are usually rebuffed. This is because Torres has been scared of committing. Ensign Vorek
once proposed that the two get married, but since he was under the influence of 'Ponn
Farr' or 'blood fever' she declined(Blood Fever). In one possible future
timeline experienced by Kes, Paris and B'Elanna get together only for her to be killed in
a Krenim attack (Before and After). However, this timeline now cannot happen since
Kes has left the ship.
Fortunately, a new timeline is unfolding where the two do finally get together. They once
come close to kissing where Torres believes she about to die (Displaced). Torres
finally reveals her true feelings for Paris, when ironically they are both close to death
again (Day of Honour). The two survive and are now enjoying a relationship
together.
